Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was refused permission to see jailed PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday as the province’s cabinet formation continues to stall. Arriving with senior PTI leaders, Afridi left without a meeting while Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, was allowed entry.
Speaking to reporters, Afridi said he needs to consult the PTI founder for policy guidance and questioned why the meeting is being blocked despite court directions for such access. He warned he would pursue a contempt case against prison authorities, accusing the federal government of governing by force rather than upholding the Constitution.
Afridi, elected CM on October 13 with 90 votes after replacing Ali Amin Gandapur, said Punjab had yet to extend congratulations and alleged wheat supplies had been cut, contributing to a flour crunch in KP. He added he would comment on a “mega corruption” matter after his cabinet is in place.
The chief minister previously attempted to meet Khan on October 23 but left after being turned back, briefly staging a sit-in outside the jail. Khan, ousted via a no-confidence vote in April 2022, has been incarcerated since August 2023 and faces multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism counts.
