OpenAI is expanding advertising within ChatGPT to Pakistan and 25 other countries, widening a programme first tested in the United States earlier this year. The latest rollout brings the total number of markets where ChatGPT advertising is available to 89 and marks a significant step in the company’s effort to build a larger advertising business.

The advertisements will be limited to users of ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans. Customers subscribed to Plus, Pro and Enterprise plans will continue using the service without ads, maintaining a clear distinction between free or lower-cost access and premium subscriptions.

Advertisers will be able to run campaigns through participating technology partners or OpenAI’s self-service Ads Manager. The expansion gives Pakistani businesses, agencies and international brands another potential channel for reaching consumers who use generative artificial intelligence for research, planning, writing and everyday questions.

OpenAI’s advertising operation reportedly reached an annualised revenue run rate of $1 billion in August. More than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since testing began in the United States, demonstrating the commercial interest surrounding ads delivered through conversational AI products.

The 26-country expansion also covers additional markets in Latin America, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru. Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia and Bangladesh are among the other countries joining the advertising programme alongside Pakistan.

For Pakistan’s digital advertising industry, ChatGPT could offer a new environment beyond search engines, social networks and traditional display advertising. Its conversational format may give businesses opportunities to reach users when they are actively seeking information, although campaign performance will ultimately depend on targeting options, measurement tools and pricing.

The introduction of advertisements within AI conversations will also bring greater attention to transparency, relevance and user trust. Businesses will need to ensure promotional material is clearly distinguishable and accurate, while users may want clarity about why particular advertisements appear during their interactions.

OpenAI introduced additional AI-powered tools for advertisers in September and began testing business-sponsored agents with selected advertisers in the United States. Those developments indicate that the company is building a wider commercial ecosystem around ChatGPT rather than relying only on conventional advertisement placements.

Further information about the rollout’s timing in Pakistan, local advertiser eligibility, billing arrangements, campaign-review requirements and targeting controls was not detailed. These operational factors will determine how quickly Pakistani brands and agencies can begin using the platform and how effectively it can compete with established digital advertising services.
