MULTAN: Five young men died when their car struck a road divider, crashed into a wall and caught fire on Bosan Road early on Monday, October 19, according to rescue officials. All five occupants died at the scene, and their bodies were subsequently taken to Nishtar Hospital.
The collision occurred near Sabzazar Metro Station. Rescue officials said the Toyota Corolla was travelling at excessive speed when its driver lost control. The vehicle hit the divider before colliding with the boundary wall of a vacant plot, leaving the car badly damaged. This account of the sequence comes from the responding emergency service.
A police report placed the crash at approximately 4am. A passerby alerted the control room at 4:15am. Rescue 1122 said the occupants had suffered severe head injuries and that firefighters extinguished the blaze following the collision.
Three victims were identified as Muzammil, 23, Yasir, 22, and Ramazan, 28. The identities of the other two men had not been established in the initial reports; rescue officials estimated their ages at around 24 and 25. The identified victims were reported to be from Shujaabad, near Multan.
The emergency response involved two fire tenders, four ambulances, a motorcycle ambulance and a rescue vehicle. Personnel recovered the bodies from the wreckage while bringing the fire under control. The operation therefore required both firefighting and recovery teams at the crash site.
Hospital sources said the bodies would be released to relatives after postmortem examinations and other required legal procedures. Identifying the remaining two victims was also outstanding in the initial account. Officials attributed the crash to speeding, while the available reports did not establish a numerical speed for the vehicle.
