Police in Mirpur have arrested a man accused of recording a passerby girl and uploading her video to TikTok through an alleged fake account without her consent. The case has drawn attention because it involves privacy, online harassment and the misuse of social media platforms to target individuals.
According to police officials, the matter was reported on September 25, 2026, when the girl’s family approached SSP Mirpur Khurram Iqbal and filed a complaint. The family told police that the girl was travelling to an academy with her brother when an unidentified person filmed her and later uploaded the video online.
The family said the incident raised serious concerns about the girl’s privacy and reputation. Police treated the complaint as a cyber-related offence and referred the matter to the Cyber Crime Unit in Mirpur for technical investigation.
SSP Khurram Iqbal directed investigators to use modern digital tools to trace the account and identify the person behind the uploaded video. Officials said the Cyber Crime Unit examined the allegedly fake TikTok account and tracked the suspect through technical means.
Police identified the suspect as Essa, son of Afzal, a resident of Bang Rarah in Islamgarh tehsil of Mirpur district. SHO Islamgarh Umair Rasheed and his team later arrested the suspect as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities said further investigation is under way to establish the complete facts and examine all aspects of the case. Investigators are expected to review the digital trail, account activity and any evidence linked to the recording and upload of the video.
Police also urged citizens facing online harassment, unauthorised sharing of pictures or videos, fake social media accounts or digital blackmail to report such cases quickly and preserve evidence. Officials warned that posting someone’s photos or videos without permission can lead to serious legal consequences.
The case highlights growing concerns in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir over digital privacy, online abuse and the misuse of social media platforms. Law-enforcement agencies are increasingly being pushed to respond faster to cyber complaints as families seek protection from harassment, reputational harm and non-consensual online exposure.
