Karachi police have registered a drug case against Azad Jakhrani, the brother of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Aijaz Jakhrani, after the alleged recovery of narcotics from a bungalow in the city. The case was lodged at Darakhshan Police Station on behalf of the state under anti-narcotics provisions.

According to the police account, the case began when a suspicious motorcyclist was stopped near the Clock Tower during routine patrolling. Police said a search of the suspect allegedly led to the recovery of 18 boxes of cocaine and 41 packets of ice, also known as crystal methamphetamine, wrapped in a plastic bag.

Police said the recovered cocaine weighed 62 grammes, while the ice weighed 106 grammes. The arrested suspect was then questioned by investigators, and police claimed he identified Azad Jakhrani as the person linked to the narcotics.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly told police that the drugs belonged to Jakhrani. He further claimed that Jakhrani was operating a drug business from his bungalow and that the narcotics supplied by him had been collected from the same property.

Police said they took the suspect to a bungalow in Khayaban-e-Seher on the basis of his statement. At the property, the suspect allegedly identified a wooden cupboard where more narcotics were kept. Investigators said shopping bags bearing a supermarket logo were recovered from the cupboard.

According to police, the recovered bags contained several packets of ice wrapped in plastic. Another separate bag allegedly contained 32 additional boxes of cocaine. Police also claimed to have recovered a digital weighing scale and other items during the search.

Investigators said the ice recovered from the cupboard weighed more than one kilogram, while the additional cocaine weighed 22 grammes. Police added that when the bungalow’s watchman was questioned, he told them the owner, Azad Jakhrani, was out of the country.

The allegations against Azad Jakhrani are based on the police account and the arrested suspect’s statement. The case will now move through the investigation process, where police are expected to verify the suspect’s claims, examine the recovered material and determine whether further arrests or legal action are required.
