Jamaat-i-Islami has demanded an independent review of the results of the top 100 candidates in the recent Medical and Dental College Admission Test, saying concerns raised by students over transparency should be addressed through a formal and impartial process. The demand was made in Karachi as the party also called for scrutiny of examination-related complaints at the University of Karachi’s law department.

JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan said students who questioned the conduct and results of the MDCAT should be given access to their question papers. He argued that reviewing the examination process and the results of high-scoring candidates would help restore confidence among applicants and families who see the test as a key gateway to medical education.

The party said it had written to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, asking the regulator to ensure transparency in the examination system. The letter also sought a complete account of fees collected from candidates and called for a clear explanation of how the examination process was handled.

The demand comes at a sensitive time for students seeking admission to medical and dental colleges, where even small questions about exam fairness can trigger serious anxiety. In a competitive admissions environment, candidates and parents often view transparency in testing as essential to maintaining confidence in merit-based selection.

The JI leader also raised concerns about the results of around 150 LLB students at the University of Karachi’s law department. He said any allegations involving changes in results or irregular procedures should be investigated openly, and that action against only one official would not be sufficient if wider problems were found.

The party linked the education concerns with broader governance issues in Karachi, criticising public service failures, infrastructure problems, water shortages, street crime and electricity outages. It said residents were already under pressure from civic problems and that students should not face additional uncertainty over examination credibility.

Khan also criticised K-Electric over prolonged announced and unannounced loadshedding, saying many areas were facing extended power cuts despite residents paying their bills. He said unreliable power supply was adding to public frustration and disrupting daily life across the city.

The party further urged authorities to speed up and properly monitor the K-IV water supply project, saying delays had worsened Karachi’s water crisis. It warned that additional road excavation for pipeline work could create more traffic problems if alternative arrangements were not planned in advance.

The next step now rests with education regulators and relevant government bodies. If they accept the demand for an independent review, students may get clearer answers on the MDCAT results and related complaints, while failure to respond could deepen mistrust among candidates and their families.
