Security forces foiled an attempted infiltration into Pakistan’s Kurram district from Afghanistan, killing 12 militants and Afghan Taliban fighters during a border engagement, according to the military’s media wing.

The incident took place on October 10, when troops detected the movement of a group approaching the international border from the Afghan side. Security personnel engaged the group before it could enter Pakistani territory, leading to an intense exchange of fire.

During the clash, Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman, 40, embraced martyrdom while fighting the infiltrators. The military said the officer displayed courage during the operation as troops responded to the attempted crossing.

According to the statement, Afghan Taliban posts opened fire in support of the infiltrating group. Pakistani forces returned fire and prevented the attempted movement across the border, while the area remained under close watch after the engagement.

The military linked the incident to Pakistan’s wider concerns over cross-border terrorism and the continued use of Afghan territory by armed groups targeting Pakistan. Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to ensure that their soil is not used for attacks across the border.

The statement also accused the Afghan Taliban administration of failing to stop such activity and of enabling groups involved in cross-border violence. Pakistan has maintained that effective action on the Afghan side of the border is necessary to reduce militant movement and protect border communities.

A sanitisation operation was launched in the area to clear any remaining threats. Security forces said counterterrorism operations would continue under the Azm-e-Istehkam framework, which was approved through the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan.

The latest border clash is likely to further strain security ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan, especially as concerns grow over militant activity along the western frontier. It also comes at a time when Pakistan is increasing pressure for tighter border management and sustained action against groups operating near the frontier.
