The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that the 12th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League will be held from March 18 to May 2 next year, setting the formal window for one of the country’s biggest sporting events. The announcement gives franchises, players, broadcasters and supporters a clear timeline for preparations ahead of the next season.

The window was finalised after consultations with owners and representatives of the eight PSL franchises during a governing council meeting held in London on September 1. The board said more details on the full match schedule, host venues and ticketing arrangements would be shared later.

The next stage of planning will focus on squad-building. The board said direct signings, player retentions, a trade window and the player auction will form part of the process as franchises prepare their combinations for the 2027 season.

PSL 12 will follow an expanded 2026 edition, when the league featured eight teams for the first time. The addition of Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz changed the structure of the tournament and widened the competition’s commercial and fan base.

The previous season also marked a major shift in player recruitment, with the league moving from its traditional draft model to a player auction. That inaugural auction saw 103 players sold to the eight franchises, creating a new financial and strategic layer for team planning.

Players retained or acquired during that auction were placed on two-year contracts covering the 11th and 12th editions. Franchises were also allowed to retain up to seven players for the next season, which means several core squads may remain stable while teams use signings and trades to strengthen key areas.

The 2026 season ended with Peshawar Zalmi winning their second PSL title after defeating debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on May 3. That final capped a season that drew strong crowds, high broadcast attention and renewed debate over the league’s expansion model.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the previous edition had set a high benchmark and that the next season would aim to raise standards further. PSL chief executive Salman Naseer said the announcement marks the beginning of preparations, with direct signings, retentions, trades and the auction expected to build momentum in the coming months.
