Pakistan has conducted a successful test launch of the extended version of its indigenously developed Fatah-4 ground-launched cruise missile, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday. The test was carried out to validate upgrades added to the weapon system and to assess technical improvements in its sub-systems.

According to the statement, the Fatah-4 extended version is equipped with advanced avionics and state-of-the-art navigational aids. The weapon system is described as capable of engaging targets at extended ranges with high precision and lethality, reflecting the focus on accuracy and survivability in the latest configuration.

The launch validated additional technical parameters incorporated into different sub-systems of the missile. These upgrades are intended to improve performance, strengthen survivability and support precision engagement at longer distances. The military statement did not specify a new maximum range for the extended version.

Senior officers from the Pakistan Army witnessed the launch along with scientists and engineers from the developing agency. Their presence highlighted the domestic development and technical testing aspect of the programme, which is part of Pakistan’s wider effort to strengthen locally built defence capabilities.

The Fatah-4 system had previously been reported with a range of 750 kilometres. Pakistan first publicly confirmed the system in 2025, when the Army conducted a successful training launch of the newly inducted ground-launched cruise missile. At the time, officials said the system featured advanced avionics and modern navigation aids.

A further training fire of the Fatah-4 was carried out in May 2026 by the Army Rocket Force Command. That exercise also focused on validating technical parameters linked to accuracy and survivability, making Tuesday’s launch another step in the continuing development and testing of the system.

The President, Prime Minister, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, along with the services chiefs, commended the successful test launch. They also appreciated the technical expertise, dedication and commitment of the scientists, engineers and personnel involved in achieving the milestone.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated the nation on the successful test. He described the extended-version launch as an important advancement in the defence sector and praised the scientists and engineers who worked on the system.

The latest test adds to a series of missile-related developments reported this year, including earlier Fatah-4 activity, a Fateh-II launch and a locally developed anti-ship ballistic missile test by the Navy. The new launch is expected to be viewed as part of Pakistan’s effort to maintain credible conventional deterrence through indigenous systems.
