Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam criticised the PTI-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, saying the province was facing worsening security risks while its leadership remained focused on political agitation. His remarks came as PTI’s long march towards Islamabad continued from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Muqam said the federal government was not in favour of imposing governor’s rule or declaring an emergency in the province, arguing that such steps were not politically desirable. At the same time, he warned that the situation could not be viewed only through a political lens when the writ of the state and provincial control were at stake.

The minister said politics could continue only if the province remained under effective control. He claimed that the provincial administration had lost its writ and that the security situation was deteriorating day by day. His comments reflected the federal government’s growing concern over law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid the latest political confrontation.

The remarks followed the launch of PTI’s march by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who said the party would not accept any policy against the interests of the people of the province. The march is aimed at pressing for the release of jailed PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.

The federal government has warned that it will act to prevent violent gatherings in Islamabad. The warning comes after talks between the government and the opposition failed to resolve the standoff, with terrorism policy and the political march emerging as major points of dispute.

Muqam said the government’s side had asked the opposition to be on the same page on terrorism during negotiations. He accused the provincial leadership of abandoning its responsibilities, saying there was no sign of government in the province and that the chief executive was focused on a single agenda.

The dispute places Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the centre of two overlapping crises: the political confrontation over PTI’s protest plans and the province’s continuing security challenges. The coming days will show whether the two sides return to negotiations or whether the march further hardens positions between the federal and provincial governments.
