PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is considering launching its October 4 long march from the southern districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with party sources saying the final starting point has not yet been decided.
According to the reported plan, Karak is among the possible launch points because it is the hometown of MNA Shahid Khattak. Another proposal under discussion is to begin the march from Dera Ismail Khan and move towards Islamabad through the motorway route.
Party sources said the matter is expected to be finalised during a political committee meeting scheduled this week. The party has already announced the October 4 march, but its detailed route plan and mobilisation strategy have not been fully disclosed.
The reported southern-route option suggests that party organisers are reviewing multiple logistical choices before the march begins. Such planning would involve coordination across districts, transport arrangements, convoy movement and possible security restrictions along the route.
Senior party figures have also reportedly discussed a proposal for former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and incumbent Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to travel together on the same container during the march. The proposal has not yet been formally approved.
The route under consideration would likely bring convoys from Dera Ismail Khan towards Islamabad, with Hakla Interchange mentioned as a possible coordination point. Sources said Gandapur had already arranged a container for the march, but final movement details remain subject to party approval.
The march comes amid heightened political tension and close attention from authorities in the capital and surrounding areas. Previous protest calls have led to road closures, container placements and security deployments, making route selection an important operational decision for the party.
The immediate next step is expected to be the party’s internal decision on the starting city, route and leadership arrangement. Until that decision is formally announced, the southern-route plan remains under consideration rather than a confirmed final schedule.
