The federal government has reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel for September 29, providing a modest change in fuel costs after a period of frequent daily revisions.

Under a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol has been set at Rs389.03 per litre after a reduction of Rs2.27. The price of high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs404.97 per litre, down by Rs3.56.

The revised rates take effect on Tuesday and follow the previous adjustment that had increased petrol by Rs2.02 per litre while lowering diesel by Rs3.59 for the September 26 to September 28 period. The changes are part of the government's daily review mechanism for petroleum products.

Pakistan shifted from weekly to daily fuel-price notifications in July as volatility in international oil markets increased. The mechanism allows domestic rates to be adjusted more quickly in response to movements in crude prices and supply conditions.

Fuel prices remain important for households, transport operators and businesses because petrol and diesel costs affect commuting, freight and the price of goods moved across the country. High-speed diesel is particularly significant for commercial transport and agricultural activity.

The government has also announced a relief programme for motorcycles, three-wheelers and small cars. Eligible users can receive a discount of Rs100 per litre within specified monthly limits, with the programme aimed at easing pressure on lower-income consumers.

Authorities have introduced conservation measures alongside the fuel policy, including earlier operating hours for many businesses and event venues. These steps were announced as higher global oil prices and supply risks continued to affect energy-importing economies.

International crude prices are being closely watched because Pakistan imports much of its petroleum requirement. Any disruption to oil supply routes or further price increases abroad could affect future domestic notifications.
