ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Shahzad produced a record-breaking innings on Thursday, smashing the fastest first-class century ever recorded by a Pakistani batter during the President's Trophy Grade-I match between Pakistan Television and Kingsmen Academy at the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad. Shahzad reached three figures from only 49 deliveries, rewriting a national batting record that had stood for years.

The aggressive right-hander surpassed the previous Pakistani benchmark held by former national captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who had scored a 56-ball first-class hundred against Australia. Shahzad's seven-ball improvement over that mark placed his innings among the quickest centuries ever registered in the longer domestic format and immediately drew attention across Pakistan's cricket community.

Shahzad did not stop after reaching the landmark. He went on to score 114 runs from 62 balls, striking 12 fours and eight sixes before his innings ended. His rapid scoring transformed Pakistan Television's position after the side had lost early wickets and provided the innings with badly needed momentum during the opening day of the third round of the competition.

The century was also Shahzad's sixth in first-class cricket, adding another significant achievement to his domestic record. His 49-ball hundred is listed as the eighth-fastest century in first-class cricket history, placing the Pakistani batter alongside some of the most explosive innings produced in the format internationally.

Pakistan Television had been under pressure when Shahzad came to the crease, with the score at 34 for three. He responded by attacking the Kingsmen Academy bowling lineup and rapidly changing the direction of the innings. His boundary-heavy approach allowed the batting side to recover quickly while forcing the opposition to adjust its field settings and bowling plans.

Other batters also contributed around him during the innings. Mohammad Taha scored 43 from 72 deliveries with six boundaries, while Sharoon Siraj added 16. Later in the day, Taimur Khan and Ammad Butt remained at the crease as Pakistan Television continued building its total following Shahzad's record-breaking contribution.

The achievement comes during the third round of the President's Trophy Grade-I, one of Pakistan's leading domestic first-class competitions. Performances in the tournament provide players with an opportunity to strengthen their cases for higher-level selection while competing against experienced domestic cricketers across multi-day matches.

Shahzad's innings is expected to remain one of the standout performances of the tournament, both because of the speed of the century and the national record it established. Attention will now turn to his performances in the remainder of the match and competition as he looks to build on a landmark innings that has placed his name prominently in Pakistan's first-class record books.
