Asim Munir Reviews POF Production as Two New Plants Near Launch
Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories in Wah on Saturday, where he reviewed the defence manufacturing complex's production capacity, export potential and contribution to Pakistan's military-industrial base, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.
During the visit, senior officials briefed the army chief on POF operations and its role in meeting national defence requirements through locally developed and manufactured military equipment. The review focused on efforts to strengthen domestic production capabilities at a time when Pakistan is placing greater emphasis on technological development and reducing dependence on imported defence equipment.
Field Marshal Munir was also shown tests and trials involving arms and ammunition designed and produced locally. ISPR said the activity reflected ongoing efforts at POF to improve indigenous manufacturing, innovation and production standards. The visit placed particular attention on the ability of the defence complex to expand its capabilities while supporting the operational requirements of Pakistan's armed forces.
Another major component of the briefing concerned the corporatisation process being pursued following the enactment of the Defence Industrial Production and Regulatory Authority Ordinance. The military's media wing said the chief of defence forces received an update on progress under the new framework as Pakistan works to reorganise and strengthen parts of its defence production sector.
Officials also briefed Field Marshal Munir on continuing modernisation and indigenisation projects at POF. Two new industrial plants are being installed as part of the upgrade programme and are expected to begin production before the end of the current year, according to ISPR. Their commissioning would add new manufacturing capacity to the Wah-based industrial complex and form part of the broader effort to modernise defence production infrastructure.
The development carries significance for Pakistan because locally produced military equipment can support supply security for the armed forces while creating opportunities to improve export capacity. The focus on domestic manufacturing also reflects an effort to build technical expertise and maintain production capability within the country. ISPR described the visit as demonstrating the military leadership's emphasis on self-reliance, indigenous production and technological innovation in the defence sector.
The next major milestone will be the planned start of production at the two new industrial plants before year-end. POF is also expected to continue its ongoing upgrade and indigenisation work while the corporatisation process progresses under the new defence industrial framework. Authorities have not announced additional production targets or export agreements in connection with Saturday's visit.
