Hina Javed Murder Case: Suspects Remanded for Three More Days
RAWALPINDI: A duty magistrate on Wednesday extended the physical remand of two suspects for another three days as police continued investigating the killing of 45-year-old digital media executive Hina Javed in Rawalpindi. Her husband and a domestic worker remain in police custody while investigators pursue forensic evidence and attempt to establish the full sequence of events surrounding her death.
Javed was found dead on August 20 inside an apartment in Rawalpindi's Lalkurti area. Police said her hands had been tied behind her back and investigators found circumstances at the scene that prompted them to treat the case as a suspected murder rather than a suicide. A special investigation team was subsequently formed, while the victim's husband and domestic servant were detained and her father-in-law was also questioned.
The two suspects were produced before Duty Magistrate Rana Shah Nawaz after completing an earlier three-day remand. Police sought seven additional days of physical custody, but the court granted another three days to allow investigators to continue questioning the suspects and complete outstanding investigative steps. The case has attracted significant public attention because of the alleged violence involved and continuing concerns over crimes against women.
Advocate Shah Khawar, representing Javed's family, said after the hearing that investigators had collected evidence and carried out forensic examinations. Medical findings cited during the investigation indicated that Javed's hyoid bone had been fractured and that injuries were present on her body. Samples including blood, saliva and swabs were collected and sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency for further analysis, with a complete postmortem assessment expected after laboratory results are received.
Police also took the suspects to Lahore for DNA and polygraph examinations before returning them to Rawalpindi for Wednesday's court appearance. According to investigators, statements were recorded from the suspects as authorities examined whether the scene had been manipulated to create the appearance of suicide. Police officials previously said the victim's body had been found partly suspended from a shower rod when officers reached the apartment after initially receiving information about an alleged burglary.
An FIR was registered at Civil Lines police station under provisions dealing with murder and common intention. Javed's brother, Fahad Javed, alleged in the complaint that his sister had been killed by her husband, his father and their domestic worker. Police have not announced final conclusions regarding individual responsibility, and the allegations against the suspects will remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
The investigation is now expected to focus heavily on forensic laboratory findings, medical evidence and statements obtained during the extended remand period. Authorities will also have to establish the exact cause of death and determine whether available physical and scientific evidence supports the prosecution's account of how Javed died. The results will be important before police submit their formal case record and prosecutors decide on the next stage of proceedings.
The case has become one of Rawalpindi's most closely followed criminal investigations and adds to wider public concern over violence against women in Pakistan. Further developments are expected once the Punjab Forensic Science Agency completes its analysis and investigators return to court at the end of the latest remand period.
