Hina Javed Case: Husband, Servant Remanded for Three Days
A Rawalpindi court on Sunday granted police a three-day physical remand of the husband and a domestic servant detained in connection with the death of Hina Javed, allowing investigators additional time to question the suspects as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the case. The development came after the two men were produced before a duty magistrate by Civil Lines police.
Police had requested custody of the suspects as part of the ongoing murder investigation. The magistrate approved the request and directed investigators to present a progress report after the three-day remand period. The case has drawn public attention following the discovery of Javed’s body inside the washroom of her apartment in Rawalpindi’s Askari Apartments area on Thursday evening.
According to police, the body showed signs that prompted investigators to treat the death as suspicious. A wire was found around Javed’s neck and attached to the shower rod, while her hands were reportedly bound. An initial post-mortem examination recorded a mark around the neck, an injury below the lip and bleeding. Investigators have said the final cause of death will be established after forensic findings are received.
A first information report was registered on August 20 at Civil Lines police station under provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code dealing with murder and common intention. The complaint was lodged by Javed’s brother, who alleged that his sister had been killed by her husband with the involvement of her father-in-law and the household employee. Those claims remain allegations under investigation and have not been established by a court.
The complainant told police that he was contacted by Javed’s father-in-law on Thursday evening and informed of an emergency at the residence. He said he travelled to the apartment with relatives and subsequently found his sister dead. He further alleged that she had suffered mistreatment before her death and raised the possibility that a toxic substance may have been administered, an allegation that will require forensic confirmation.
Police sources said investigators are also examining the possible role of Javed’s father-in-law, who has been questioned and instructed not to leave the city while inquiries continue. Authorities have formed a seven-member investigation team headed by Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police Investigation Saifullah to handle the case. Mobile phones belonging to the victim and several family members have also been taken into custody for examination as investigators seek digital evidence that could help reconstruct events before the death.
The Punjab Forensic Science Agency’s findings are expected to be central to determining the precise cause and manner of death. Investigators will also use the remand period to question the detained suspects, review communications and compare their accounts with forensic and medical evidence. Police are expected to submit their progress to the court when the suspects are produced again after completion of the three-day remand.
The case has intensified attention on violence against women and the handling of suspicious deaths in domestic settings. The immediate next steps will include completion of forensic testing, further questioning of relevant individuals and assessment of evidence collected from the apartment and electronic devices. Any decision on additional arrests or charges will depend on the evidence developed during the investigation and subsequent court proceedings.
