Punjab Announces New School Timings From August 24

Punjab's School Education Department has announced revised school timings that will take effect from August 24, setting a new daily schedule for educational institutions as students return after the summer break. The timetable will remain in force until October 15, affecting school routines across the province at the start of the new academic period.

Under the revised schedule, single-shift schools will begin classes at 8am. From Monday to Thursday, the school day will continue until 1:30pm, while Friday classes will finish earlier at 12:45pm. The changes mean parents, students and school transport operators will need to adjust their daily schedules from Monday.

Separate timings have been set for institutions operating double shifts. Morning shifts will begin at 8am and generally conclude at 12:30pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, the morning session will finish at noon, allowing additional time before the afternoon schedule begins.

For double-shift schools, afternoon classes will run from 1pm until 5:30pm between Monday and Thursday. The Friday afternoon shift will begin at 2pm and conclude at 5:30pm. The staggered arrangement is intended to allow institutions using the same facilities for multiple groups of students to continue operating under a coordinated timetable.

The announcement comes as schools across Punjab prepare to reopen on August 24 following the summer vacation. The provincial authorities have clarified the reopening schedule after reports and speculation circulated about whether the holidays could be extended. The latest instructions confirm that regular academic activity is scheduled to resume under the newly announced timings.

District education authorities and their chief executive officers have been directed to ensure implementation of the revised schedule. Schools are expected to communicate the applicable timings to students and families, particularly where institutions operate more than one shift or require local administrative adjustments.
