Jacobabad Residents Protest Prolonged Power Outages
JACOBABAD: Residents took to the National Highway in Jacobabad on Saturday to protest repeated and prolonged electricity outages, demanding urgent action from the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO). The demonstration focused on continuing supply disruptions affecting the City-4 feeder, with protesters saying the outages had made normal daily life increasingly difficult.
People from Bolan Mohalla joined the protest and gathered on the highway while raising slogans against SEPCO officials. Demonstrators also burned tyres as they pressed the power utility to address what they described as unannounced and extended shutdowns. Their central demand was for electricity supply to the affected feeder to be restored on a regular basis without prolonged interruptions.
Residents said the outages were having a particularly severe impact during nighttime hours. According to the protesters, households connected to the City-4 feeder have faced lengthy periods without electricity, disrupting domestic routines and adding to the strain on families. They described the recurring shutdowns as a source of severe hardship and mental stress for people living in the affected neighbourhoods.
The demonstrators urged the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the situation rather than allowing the disruption to continue. They specifically called for SEPCO to resolve problems affecting the City-4 feeder and restore electricity according to the normal supply schedule. Dunya News did not report an immediate response from SEPCO officials or announce a specific timetable for resolving the latest complaints.
Complaints involving the City-4 feeder are not entirely new. Earlier local reporting in March documented allegations from Jacobabad residents that prolonged load-shedding continued on the same feeder despite expectations that infrastructure changes would improve electricity supply. Residents at the time also called on federal power authorities, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority and SEPCO management to investigate their concerns and ensure reliable service.
Upper Sindh's electricity network has also faced wider infrastructure pressures during 2026. In June, severe storms damaged power transmission and distribution infrastructure across several districts served by SEPCO, including Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur and other areas. The storm caused widespread feeder and grid disruptions and prompted emergency restoration work. There is no indication in the latest Jacobabad report, however, that the present City-4 feeder outage was directly caused by that earlier weather damage.
The latest protest underscores continuing public frustration over electricity reliability in parts of Sindh, where prolonged interruptions can quickly become a major civic issue. For the Jacobabad demonstrators, the immediate concern remains the repeated interruption of household electricity and the absence of a lasting solution to the City-4 feeder problem.
Attention will now turn to SEPCO and local authorities for any response to the demonstrators' demands. Residents are seeking restoration of normal power supply and action to prevent further unannounced, prolonged outages. As of the latest report, no formal repair schedule, inquiry or official explanation for the current disruption had been announced.
