Seven Militants Killed in Balochistan Kharan Intelligence Operation
Security forces killed seven suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Kharan district on Sunday, according to security sources cited in the report. The operation was carried out in the Lajay area after authorities received information about the presence of armed militants in the locality.
The sources said the raid targeted hideouts believed to be used by members of Fitna al-Khawarij. During the engagement, seven militants were killed while several others were reported injured, marking another counterterrorism action in a province that has seen repeated security operations in recent months.
Weapons, ammunition and other military equipment were recovered from the hideouts after the operation, the sources added. Security personnel also found one motorcycle and two vehicles at the site, which were later destroyed as part of the clearance effort.
According to the security sources, the militants killed in the Kharan operation were allegedly involved in planning extortion, kidnapping, targeted killings and suicide attacks. Officials said the ongoing campaign under Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3 would continue until militant networks operating in the area are dismantled.
The Kharan operation came a day after security forces killed 10 suspected militants during an exchange of fire in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district. That earlier action was carried out in the Shor Parod mountainous range after reports of the presence of militants affiliated with what security officials described as an Indian proxy network.
Balochistan has remained a major focus of Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has repeatedly reported a rise in militant activity, particularly in border and conflict-prone regions where armed groups have targeted security personnel, civilians and public infrastructure.
Recent violence data cited in the report underlined the severity of the challenge. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, KP and Balochistan together accounted for nearly 96 percent of all violence-related fatalities recorded in Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026, with KP reporting the highest number of incidents and Balochistan following closely behind.
The latest operation is likely to reinforce the government’s position that sustained intelligence-led action remains central to restoring security in affected districts. For residents of Balochistan, the outcome of such operations will depend not only on military pressure against militants but also on longer-term stability, improved governance and protection of civilian life in areas exposed to repeated violence.
