Eid Milad un Nabi 2026 in Pakistan Set for August 26

Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Thursday that the moon for Rabi ul Awal had not been sighted, confirming that Eid Milad un Nabi will be observed across the country on Wednesday, August 26.

The announcement was made after a formal moon-sighting meeting in Islamabad chaired by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. The decision followed the collection and review of sighting reports from different parts of Pakistan.

According to the committee’s determination, the first day of Rabi ul Awal 1448 AH will begin on Saturday, August 15. As a result, the 12th of Rabi ul Awal, which marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), will fall on August 26.

Officials from relevant institutions, including the Pakistan Meteorological Department and the Ministry of Science and Technology, assisted the committee during the process. Their technical input was considered alongside public testimonies and regional reports before the final decision was issued.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad stated that no credible evidence of the moon sighting had been received from anywhere in the country. The committee therefore reached a consensus that the new Islamic month would not begin on Friday.

Moon-sighting decisions in Pakistan carry major religious and administrative importance because they determine the dates of key Islamic occasions. Eid Milad un Nabi is observed with public gatherings, processions, mosque events, religious conferences and special programmes across cities, towns and villages.

The announcement gives provincial administrations, religious organisations and local authorities a clear calendar for security planning and public arrangements. In major urban centres, authorities are expected to prepare traffic plans, procession routes and safety measures ahead of the day.
