Swat Police Station Suicide Blast Kills at Least 14

At least 14 people were killed and several others injured on Sunday when a suicide bomber detonated explosives outside Kabal police station in Swat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attack triggered a large emergency response as police secured the site and rescue teams transported casualties to hospitals across the district.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi said nine bodies were taken to Saidu Sharif Central Hospital, while doctors at Kabal Hospital confirmed five additional deaths. More than 15 injured people received emergency assistance and were shifted to different medical facilities as rescue operations continued.

Police said the attacker attempted to enter the station but was intercepted by an officer before reaching the inner compound. After being stopped, the bomber detonated the explosives near the main gate, an area surrounded by police facilities and other sensitive government buildings.

Deputy Inspector General of Malakand Syed Fida Hussain confirmed that the explosion occurred at the entrance to the police station. Initial reports indicated that police personnel and civilians were among the casualties, while authorities cautioned that the figures could change as hospitals completed identification and treatment procedures.

A demonstration involving local youths was underway in the wider area when the explosion occurred, but police officials said the protest site was located some distance from the blast scene. Investigators will examine whether the attacker specifically targeted the police facility and how the bomber reached the heavily monitored location.

Rescue 1122 deployed 13 ambulances and more than 45 personnel to the scene. Emergency workers provided first aid, transferred critically injured victims and coordinated with hospitals as security teams searched the surrounding area for possible secondary threats and collected material for forensic examination.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the attack and expressed grief over the loss of life. He said militant violence would not weaken the resolve of the state or the public, while provincial Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman offered condolences to the victims' families and directed authorities to ensure treatment for those injured.

The bombing comes amid continuing security pressure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police personnel, security installations and public places have repeatedly faced militant attacks. Swat experienced years of insurgent violence before major security operations restored government control, making any fresh attack in the district a matter of serious national concern.
