A newly reconstructed section of Lahore’s Khayaban-e-Firdousi Road has caved in after rainfall, triggering public concern over the quality of a major infrastructure project reportedly completed at a cost of more than Rs2 billion. The development was reported on Thursday after another sinkhole appeared on the busy road, only days after a similar collapse in the same area.

The road project had taken nearly 18 months to complete and was promoted as a long-term repair for a route known for repeated damage linked to underground sewerage problems. However, the appearance of a second depression after the first rain has raised serious questions about whether the reconstruction addressed the underlying faults or only delivered a temporary surface-level fix.

According to the report, the latest collapse has again placed the Lahore Development Authority, the Water and Sanitation Agency and the Punjab government under scrutiny.
