FIA Cracks Down on Fuel Stockpiling Across Sindh

The Federal Investigation Agency and local administrative authorities launched a crackdown on petrol stations in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas on Sunday amid concerns about fuel stockpiling and interruptions in public supply. The operation targeted filling stations suspected of withholding available petroleum products, violating regulations or contributing to an artificial shortage in parts of Sindh.

In Hyderabad, officials sealed a petrol pump after its management allegedly refused to sell fuel even though sufficient stock was available at the premises. Authorities treated the refusal as a serious supply violation because restricted sales during periods of heightened demand can quickly create panic among motorists and place pressure on nearby stations.

The district administration also opened an inquiry into another filling station operating under the Pakistan State Oil network after officials identified irregularities in its records. Investigators are expected to examine the available documentation and determine whether the discrepancies were connected to stock management, sales reporting or compliance failures.

Enforcement action was also reported on Digri Road, where another petrol pump was sealed for remaining closed. A separate filling station was fined Rs50,000 for breaching applicable regulations, demonstrating that authorities were using both closures and financial penalties as part of the wider campaign.

FIA officials directed petrol station operators to ensure an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to consumers under all circumstances. Authorities warned that operations would continue against businesses found involved in hoarding, profiteering or deliberately creating shortages by refusing to release available stocks into the market.

The action comes as fuel availability remains a sensitive public issue in Pakistan, where even temporary disruptions can trigger long queues, panic buying and rapid circulation of shortage claims on social media. Any reduction in retail supply can also affect commercial transport, daily commuting, agricultural activity and the movement of essential goods.

Monitoring petrol stations requires coordination between federal investigators, district administrations and companies responsible for supplying the retail network. Accurate sales and inventory records are essential for determining whether a station is facing a genuine delivery problem or intentionally holding back fuel to benefit from uncertainty and increased demand.

For consumers in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, the crackdown is intended to restore confidence that fuel stocks will remain available through authorised retail channels. Continued inspections may also discourage other operators from restricting sales, manipulating supply or closing stations without a legitimate operational reason.
