Karachi Harassment Video Sparks Police Probe In Azizabad

Karachi police have opened an investigation after CCTV footage showed a motorcyclist allegedly harassing a woman in the Azizabad area of the city. The incident, reported on Friday, took place in Block 2, where the woman was walking through a street while carrying groceries.

According to the available footage, the suspect approached the woman from behind on a motorcycle and allegedly behaved inappropriately before leaving the scene. The video quickly drew public attention because it appeared to capture the incident in a residential street during daylight hours.

Police said the suspect did not leave the area immediately after the first alleged act. Investigators believe he returned moments later and again harassed the woman before escaping, prompting authorities to treat the case as a serious street-crime and public-safety matter.

Officials have collected CCTV footage from the area as part of efforts to identify the motorcyclist. Police said they are reviewing recordings from nearby homes, shops and streets to determine the suspect’s route before and after the incident.

Investigators also said the suspect had reportedly purchased biryani from a nearby restaurant before the alleged harassment. Surveillance video from the restaurant and adjoining businesses has been obtained to help establish his identity, appearance, motorcycle details and direction of movement.

The case has renewed concern over women’s safety in Karachi’s public spaces, particularly in neighbourhood streets where many incidents go unreported because victims fear social pressure, delays in legal action or lack of confidence in police response. Rights advocates have repeatedly called for faster investigations in harassment cases involving CCTV evidence.
