Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Move to Deepen Energy Cooperation

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia held a fresh round of high-level economic engagement in Islamabad as both sides discussed expanding cooperation in the energy sector, a key area for Pakistan’s economic stability and long-term growth.

The meeting brought together Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Federal Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Saudi Minister of Finance Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties and identifying new areas where both countries can work more closely.

According to details shared by the Power Division, the meeting reviewed ways to deepen Pakistan-Saudi cooperation in the energy sector while also broadening the overall economic partnership. Officials said the talks were aimed at maintaining momentum on issues of shared interest and creating space for regular consultations.

The official account of the meeting indicated that both sides agreed to further expand economic cooperation linked to energy. The Power Division spokesperson said the discussion covered new avenues for mutual collaboration, suggesting that Islamabad wants energy cooperation to remain central to its engagement with Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia has long been one of Pakistan’s most significant partners in the Gulf, with cooperation spanning finance, labour, trade, investment and energy. Islamabad has repeatedly sought to convert its close diplomatic relationship with Riyadh into stronger economic outcomes, especially in sectors that can support fiscal stability and industrial activity.

The presence of both the energy and finance ministers from Pakistan reflected the cross-cutting nature of the discussions.
