PAF Officer Martyred While Saving Woman in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq was martyred in Islamabad after reportedly intervening to protect a woman during a violent incident on Ninth Avenue. The case has triggered strong public reaction because it involves an officer allegedly sacrificing his life while trying to stop a woman from being forced or harassed by a man on a motorcycle.
According to initial reports, Group Captain Asim was passing through the area when he noticed a woman in distress near a motorcycle. The woman had allegedly stepped down from the bike while the rider was pulling her by the hand, creating a situation that appeared urgent and unsafe.
The officer is said to have turned his vehicle back after seeing the incident and stopped near the motorcycle. As the woman moved toward the other side of his vehicle, the situation reportedly escalated and the suspect began arguing with him.
The alleged attacker, identified in the report as Saad, opened fire during the confrontation. Group Captain Asim sustained serious injuries and later embraced martyrdom, while the suspect fled from the scene before he could be taken into custody.
Police officials said the woman told investigators that the suspect was her office colleague. According to her account, he had offered to take her to work but allegedly changed the route and tried to take her somewhere else, prompting resistance and a struggle.
The woman also stated that Group Captain Asim’s timely intervention helped protect her from further harm. Her statement has become a central part of the early investigation as law enforcement agencies work to reconstruct the sequence of events and track the fleeing suspect.
Authorities have launched efforts to arrest the accused and determine whether other evidence, including CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts and mobile phone data, can support the investigation.
