Lahore Roof Collapse Kills Child, Injures Four

A child was killed and at least four people were injured on Thursday after the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area. The incident triggered an emergency rescue response in one of the city’s densely populated neighbourhoods, raising fresh concerns over construction safety and building oversight.

According to the details reported from Rescue 1122, the roof of the third floor of the under-construction building gave way, trapping people under the debris. Rescue teams reached the site shortly after the collapse and began removing rubble to search for those buried beneath the structure.

Officials said the injured were provided first aid at the scene before being shifted to Services Hospital for further treatment. Another person was still believed to be trapped under the debris while the rescue operation continued, making the situation urgent for emergency personnel working in difficult conditions.

Rescue 1122 said seven rescue vehicles and 25 personnel were deployed for the operation. Their immediate priority was to stabilise the site, recover anyone still trapped and prevent further injury from loose debris or weakened portions of the damaged structure.

The collapse comes only two days after a separate roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area killed 14 children, deepening public anxiety over unsafe buildings and poor construction practices. That tragedy had already brought building safety into the spotlight, and the latest incident is likely to intensify calls for stronger inspections.

Roof and building collapses remain a recurring problem across Pakistan, particularly in older neighbourhoods, under-construction sites and structures built with weak materials or limited engineering supervision.
