Missing US National Found Safe in Hyderabad After Wedding Trip

A reported kidnapping case involving Pakistani-born US citizen Zaid Munir took an unexpected turn after police found him safe in Hyderabad and handed him back to his family. The development was reported from Karachi after investigators traced him to a local hotel, ending several days of uncertainty surrounding his disappearance.

According to police officials, Munir had been reported missing after leaving a relative’s residence in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony. A kidnapping case had already been registered at the Shah Faisal Police Station, prompting police to search for him and verify whether he had been taken against his will.

The investigation later revealed that Munir was staying voluntarily at a hotel in Hyderabad. Police said the case shifted direction after he was located safely and provided his statement, explaining that he had travelled to Hyderabad by choice rather than being abducted.

In his statement to police, Munir reportedly said he had gone to Hyderabad to get married. He also told investigators that he had informed his sister about his travel plans before leaving, a detail that helped authorities understand the circumstances behind his disappearance.

Police completed the required legal formalities before handing him over to his relatives. Officials said the priority was to ensure his safety, confirm his statement and resolve the confusion that had led the family to fear a possible kidnapping.

The case began after Munir arrived in Karachi from the United States on May 24, 2026. He reportedly left his relative’s home in Shah Faisal Colony at around 1:24am the next day, after which his phone became unreachable and his family was unable to contact him.

His cousin, also a US national, initially filed the complaint after Munir’s sudden disappearance. The family’s concern was heightened because there had been no communication after he left the house, creating suspicion that he may have been abducted or placed in danger.

The incident gained public attention because it involved an overseas Pakistani and an allegation of kidnapping in Karachi, a city where missing-person and crime-related reports often generate immediate concern. Police recovery of the man from Hyderabad helped defuse the case before it escalated further.

For law enforcement, the episode highlights the importance of quick verification in sensitive missing-person cases. While families may fear the worst when communication suddenly stops, police must establish whether a person is missing, abducted, travelling voluntarily or involved in a private family matter.
