Karachi Sea View Hit-and-Run Suspect Still At Large After Viral Crash
A suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Karachi’s Sea View road remained at large on Tuesday night, days after a speeding double-cabin vehicle struck a car in Defence Housing Authority, killing one person and injuring two teenagers. The incident gained wider attention after footage of the collision circulated on social media and intensified public concern over reckless driving in the city.
The crash took place at the junction of main Sea View Road and Khayaban-i-Bukhari in DHA Phase 6 in the early hours of May 14. According to the police case, a fast-moving Revo vehicle hit another car with heavy impact, leaving three occupants critically injured. The driver of the SUV did not stop after the collision and escaped from the scene.
The deceased was identified as 33-year-old Suleman Saleem, who had been driving the car that was hit. Two young passengers, 17-year-old Ameer Owais and 19-year-old Hamza Walika, were also injured and shifted for medical treatment. Suleman later died during treatment, turning the case from a traffic accident into a fatal criminal investigation.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza said Darakhshan police had registered an FIR against the absconding driver and that legal action was underway. He confirmed that police had impounded the Revo vehicle involved in the crash and were conducting raids to arrest the suspect. The official also said the suspect had been identified through the Safe City Project.
Speaking on Geo News programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath,” the DIG said police could not yet verify reports that the suspect had fled to Balochistan. However, he stated that the suspect had a domicile from Nasirabad, Balochistan, and that permission from the provincial government would be sought if required to move forward with arrest procedures.
The viral video added urgency to the case because it showed the violent force of the collision and the failure of the speeding vehicle to stop. The clip, shared on X at https://x.com/muneebfaruqpak/status/2056015564565520825, triggered public anger and renewed debate about high-speed driving, enforcement gaps and accountability on Karachi’s major roads.
Karachi has seen repeated deadly road accidents in recent days, raising pressure on police and traffic authorities to act more decisively. Dawn also reported that two police personnel were martyred when a speeding dumper truck hit a police van on the M9 Motorway, while three motorcyclists were killed last week in separate hit-and-run incidents in Defence and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The wider concern is not limited to one suspect or one road. Residents have long complained about overspeeding, heavy vehicles, poorly enforced traffic laws and weak deterrence for drivers who flee after crashes. Such incidents create fear for commuters, families and pedestrians, especially in high-traffic areas where road discipline is already fragile.
The next stage will depend on whether police can arrest the driver quickly and complete the investigation transparently. The case is expected to remain under close public scrutiny because the video has made it a viral symbol of Karachi’s road safety crisis and the demand for accountability after fatal crashes.
