Karachi Factory Fire Controlled After Major Rescue Operation
A major fire at a factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone was brought largely under control on Sunday night after an extended emergency response by firefighters and rescue teams. The incident triggered concern in one of the city’s important industrial areas as flames moved through parts of a multi-storey building.
Rescue officials said the blaze started on the second floor of the structure before spreading upward to the third floor. The rapid movement of the fire prompted authorities to deploy more than 10 fire brigade vehicles to the site, while emergency crews worked to prevent the flames from extending to nearby sections of the industrial zone.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze on the second floor and contain the fire on the third floor. Officials said the building was being monitored closely because flames were still visible in some portions, requiring teams to continue operations inside and around the affected structure.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said the fire broke out in a warehouse where used clothes were stored. His statement suggested that the material inside the facility may have contributed to the intensity of the blaze, although officials did not immediately confirm the exact cause of the incident.
Rescue 1122 teams also confirmed that the fire had been controlled and that crews were focusing on remaining pockets of flames inside the building. Fire officer Yusra said cooling operations were expected to begin after the active flames were fully suppressed, a necessary step to prevent the fire from reigniting.
No casualties were immediately reported, which offered some relief amid fears that workers or security staff could have been trapped inside the premises. Authorities, however, are expected to inspect the building once cooling operations are completed to assess structural safety and determine whether any further risks remain.
The Landhi Export Processing Zone is a key industrial location in Karachi, housing export-oriented units and warehouses that support manufacturing, trade and employment. Fire incidents in such areas can disrupt business operations, damage stored goods and raise questions about workplace safety systems, emergency exits and fire-prevention standards.
Industrial fires in Karachi have repeatedly highlighted the need for stronger enforcement of safety codes, especially in warehouses and factories storing flammable or densely packed materials.
