Major Among Five Soldiers Martyred in Balochistan Operation

Five Pakistani security personnel, including an army major, were martyred during an intelligence-led sanitisation operation in the Nosham area of Barkhan district in Balochistan, according to the military’s media wing. The operation was launched as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the province.

The Inter-Services Public Relations said troops from the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps Balochistan moved into the area after reports of terrorist presence. During the search operation, security forces located and engaged a group of militants, triggering an intense exchange of fire.

According to the ISPR, seven terrorists were killed in the clash. Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the slain militants, indicating that the group was equipped for further violent activity in the region.

The military identified the martyred personnel as Major Tauseef Ahmed Bhatti from Pakpattan, Naik Fida Hussain from Sukkur, Sepoy Zakir Hussain from Skardu, Sepoy Suhail Ahmed from Khanewal and Sepoy Muhammad Ayaz from Rahim Yar Khan. The ISPR said the soldiers laid down their lives while fighting bravely during the operation.

Officials stated that sanitisation operations were continuing in nearby areas to ensure that no other terrorists remained present. The military also reiterated that its counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-i-Istehkam framework would continue with full force against foreign-backed militancy.

Balochistan has faced repeated militant attacks in recent years, with security forces frequently conducting operations in remote districts to dismantle networks involved in attacks on personnel, infrastructure and civilians. Barkhan and surrounding areas have remained under close watch due to militant movement and difficult terrain.

The latest casualties highlight the continuing security challenge confronting Pakistan in its southwestern province. The operation also comes amid renewed official emphasis on coordinated action by security forces and law enforcement agencies against militant groups.

For Pakistan, the incident reinforces the human cost of counterterrorism operations and the importance of sustained intelligence coordination in Balochistan. Authorities are expected to continue clearance operations in the area while investigating the network and support structure behind the militants killed in the clash.
