The Pakistan Stock Exchange recorded a powerful rebound in Karachi on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 index staging a sharp recovery as investors returned to equities after a period of volatility. The rally came as easing geopolitical concerns and a drop in global oil prices improved market confidence across major sectors.

The KSE-100 index climbed to an intraday high of 171,746 points before settling at 171,704.75. The closing level marked a gain of 6,962.28 points, or 4.23 per cent, making the session one of the strongest recent recoveries for the local bourse.

Buying was broad-based, with major banking, energy, fertiliser, cement and industrial names contributing to the surge. Index heavyweights including United Bank, Lucky Cement, Fauji Fertiliser Company, Pakistan Petroleum, Oil and Gas Development Company and Engro Holdings helped lift the benchmark by a combined 2,920 points.

Market analysts linked the recovery to improving sentiment around possible diplomatic progress between the United States and Iran. Topline Securities noted that investor mood strengthened after signs of movement toward negotiations, which helped ease anxiety over disruption risks around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.

The rally also received support from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s statement appreciating de-escalation efforts and diplomatic engagement. Brokers said the official messaging strengthened the perception that regional tensions may be moving toward a less disruptive phase, giving investors room to rebuild positions in selected blue-chip stocks.

A steep fall in international crude prices added another layer of support for Pakistan’s equity market. Lower oil prices are viewed as positive for the country because they can reduce pressure on the import bill, ease inflation expectations and improve the outlook for the external account at a time when Pakistan remains sensitive to global energy swings.

Trading activity expanded significantly during the session. Total market volume jumped 165.25 per cent to 1.2 billion shares, while traded value rose 176.5 per cent to Rs63 billion. Hascol Petroleum led the volume board as speculative and momentum-driven activity returned to the market.

The recovery followed days of caution in which investors had been closely watching developments in the Middle East and their possible impact on oil flows, currency stability and Pakistan’s macroeconomic outlook. Because Pakistan depends heavily on imported fuel, any major disruption in energy markets can quickly affect inflation, reserves and business confidence.

For investors, Wednesday’s rebound signalled a return of risk appetite, especially in sectors that benefit from lower energy costs and improved liquidity. However, analysts warned that the market remains highly sensitive to geopolitical news, and any reversal in the regional situation could quickly put pressure back on share prices.

The near-term outlook now depends on whether diplomatic engagement continues and whether global oil prices remain contained. If de-escalation efforts hold, the PSX may retain positive momentum, but investors are expected to keep a close watch on international headlines, currency movement and policy signals from both domestic and global authorities.
