Thunderstorms sweep Karachi as rain spreads across city

Rain and thunderstorms hit multiple areas of Karachi, bringing wet conditions to a wide stretch of the city and prompting authorities to remain on alert. Showers were reported from several neighbourhoods, including Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Malir, Saddar, Clifton and Defence.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast further rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms later in the day. Weather officials said humidity remained high, while temperatures stayed within a relatively mild range compared with recent warmer spells.

The Sindh government said advance arrangements had already been put in place to respond to the weather, and officials indicated that staff leave had been cancelled to ensure readiness. Such measures are especially significant in Karachi, where even short periods of heavy rain can quickly disrupt traffic flow and strain drainage systems.

For residents, the rainfall offered temporary relief from heat but also revived concern over urban management during the monsoon-style downpour. The latest weather spell has once again placed focus on the city's preparedness for flooding, road congestion and emergency response during sudden thunderstorms.
