Flood alert issued for several regions as heavy flows loom

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a flood warning for multiple parts of the country for the period from April 2 to April 4, citing evolving hydro-meteorological conditions and the risk of high river flows and flash flooding. The advisory places emergency agencies and local administrations on alert in vulnerable districts.

The department said River Kabul at Nowshera could reach a high flood level during the forecast window. It also warned that tributaries linked to the river system may experience sudden surges, increasing the risk for low-lying settlements and transport routes.

Flash flooding is also expected in central and northern Balochistan, including along nullahs and river channels such as Zhob, Nari, Beji, Shirin and Bolan. In south Punjab, the DG Khan division, particularly hill torrent zones in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, has also been identified as vulnerable.

The warning highlights the need for preventive measures, including local preparedness, travel caution and closer monitoring of water flows. With weather-driven disruptions already affecting several areas, the advisory is likely to shape administrative responses over the next two days.
