Govt finalises petrol subsidy app for low-income Pakistanis

Pakistan’s federal government has completed development of a petrol subsidy application designed to deliver targeted fuel relief to low-income citizens, particularly motorcycle and rickshaw owners.

According to the report, the app has moved into final testing after user-side and retailer-side trials, with security checks, quota verification and load testing already carried out. Authorities are also integrating beneficiary data from the Benazir Income Support Programme and other relief databases to identify eligible households.

Officials are preparing a system under which approved users would receive a fixed petrol quota, while provincial governments are expected to assist with verification and rollout. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to cushion vulnerable groups from rising fuel costs without expanding untargeted subsidies.
