Pipeline blast cuts gas to Quetta and nearby Balochistan districts
Gas supply remained suspended in several parts of Quetta and multiple districts of Balochistan after unidentified attackers blew up a main gas pipeline in the Akhtarabad area near the city’s Western Bypass.
SSGC officials said the damaged line was an 18-inch main pipeline and that the explosion disrupted supply in Quetta neighbourhoods including Hazara Town, Hazarganji, Khaizi and Nohsar. The outage also spread to Pishin, Ziarat, Kalat, Mastung and Kuchlak.
Officials said a large section of the pipeline was destroyed and engineers reached the site to assess the damage. Repair operations, however, were linked to security clearance, with replacement material expected to be brought in from Karachi.
Security around gas installations in Quetta was tightened after the attack. Residents were advised to arrange alternative fuel sources for the next one to two days while restoration work is carried out.
