Islamabad robbery-murder suspects held within a day

Authorities say all five suspects linked to the killing of businessman Aamir Awan in Islamabad have been arrested within 24 hours of the crime. Interior Minister of State Talal Chaudhry said the accused were traced after a wide-ranging operation stretching from Karachi to Khyber.

According to officials, Awan was shot during a robbery at a farmhouse on March 29 and died during treatment the next day. Police identified the network as the Mansoor Khan group, also described by officials as the Bulletproof Jacket Wala Gang, and said two Afghan nationals were among its members.

Islamabad police said the investigation relied on modern methods, including artificial intelligence tools, geofencing and analysis of hundreds of communication records. Raids were carried out in Charsadda, Mardan, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with police saying the gang leader was arrested in Charsadda.

The government used the case to highlight its broader law-and-order messaging, with Chaudhry claiming major crime in the capital has fallen sharply compared with last year and promising further upgrades to policing and surveillance infrastructure.
