China and Pakistan deepen coordination as Dar visits Beijing

China said it would strengthen coordination with Pakistan over the Iran situation as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar travelled to Beijing for a one-day visit focused on bilateral ties and regional diplomacy.

The visit comes as Islamabad steps up its efforts to ease tensions surrounding the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Pakistan has recently hosted senior regional ministers and has also been involved in passing messages between Washington and Tehran, raising its diplomatic profile.

Beijing said Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi would deepen strategic communication and work toward fresh efforts for peace. Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the visit would cover bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.

Officials in Islamabad described the trip as another sign of the depth of the Pakistan-China partnership. The visit also followed suggestions by analysts that China could play a wider stabilising role in any future diplomatic arrangement linked to the Iran crisis.
