Govt Nears Petrol Relief Plan for Bikers and Rickshaws
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government is moving quickly to roll out relief for lower- and middle-income households as the Iran war and wider Middle East tensions continue to push global oil prices higher.
At the center of the plan is a targeted subsidized petrol scheme for motorcycle and rickshaw owners, groups seen as especially vulnerable to rising fuel costs. During a high-level review meeting on petroleum stocks and public relief measures, officials told the prime minister that the federal government is coordinating with provinces to finalize the registration process for eligible beneficiaries.
The Prime Minister's Office said the framework is being designed to ensure targeted support reaches daily wage earners and low-income commuters. Shehbaz Sharif said economically weaker segments would not be left alone during the ongoing pressure caused by higher energy prices.
