Karachi extends deadline for official vehicle number plates
Karachi police have given motorists two extra days to switch to government-approved vehicle number plates, moving the enforcement deadline to April 1. Officials said the extension was granted to help owners obtain and install the required plates before the start of a citywide crackdown.
Police said action will now begin against vehicles carrying private, decorative or otherwise unapproved number plates after the revised deadline. The campaign will also target drivers found operating vehicles without valid licences.
Authorities said the use of fancy or unofficial plates creates identification problems and raises security concerns. Citizens have been urged to complete compliance within the extended window to avoid penalties once enforcement begins.
