FBR opens probe into Rs48.4 crore reward payouts

The Federal Board of Revenue has moved to examine its own reward disbursements worth Rs. 48.4 crore after an Auditor General of Pakistan revelation raised questions over how the payments were approved and distributed.

The report triggered scrutiny over internal oversight, financial controls and the justification for large incentive payouts inside the tax authority. The matter is likely to intensify debate about accountability in revenue institutions, especially at a time when Pakistan remains under pressure to strengthen governance and improve fiscal discipline.

An internal review is expected to determine whether procedures were followed, whether the payments were lawful and whether any officials may face action if irregularities are confirmed.
