Top huddle backs joint plan on security and economy

Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership agreed on a coordinated policy framework to protect national security, economic stability and food supply as regional tensions continue to intensify.

At a high-level meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari, participants reviewed the impact of global oil and gas disruptions, inflation risks and the wider fallout of the conflict involving Iran. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other senior officials were present.

The discussion focused on aligning economic management, energy planning and broader security policy under one national response. Officials stressed the need for fiscal discipline, close institutional coordination and practical measures to reduce fuel use, including greater reliance on public transport and shared travel.

The meeting also reflected Islamabad’s dual-track approach: preparing for spillover risks at home while maintaining diplomatic efforts to help prevent further escalation in the region.
