Pakistan moves on tech-based fuel subsidy plan amid price pressure

Federal and provincial authorities agreed to speed up work on a targeted petroleum subsidy mechanism that would rely on technological tools for delivery and oversight.

According to Geo News, the discussion took place at a high-level meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. Officials said fuel supplies across Pakistan were stable, while the IT ministry presented options meant to make any subsidy programme more transparent and efficient.

Provincial representatives backed closer coordination and stressed that any drop in global oil prices should benefit consumers. The meeting also underlined that relief measures must be carefully designed so they do not undermine broader economic stability.
