Lahore to observe public holiday for Mela Chiraghan on March 28

The Punjab government has declared a local public holiday in Lahore for March 28 to mark the annual Mela Chiraghan celebrations linked to the Urs of the Sufi saint Shah Hussain, also known as Madhu Lal Hussain.

Officials said the closure applies at district level within Lahore and covers subordinate offices operating in the district. The announcement was made through an official notification issued by the provincial administration.

Mela Chiraghan is one of Lahore’s best-known cultural and spiritual events, drawing large gatherings for devotional activities, lamp-lighting and qawwali. Shah Hussain remains a towering figure in Punjabi Sufi poetry, remembered for his themes of love, longing and spiritual union.
