CDA unveils Islamabad waste collection upgrade

The Capital Development Authority has announced a new plan to strengthen solid waste management across the Islamabad Capital Territory. The initiative includes the procurement of specialized machinery for both primary and secondary waste collection, particularly in areas that have not been adequately served.

Under the proposed system, garbage gathered from different parts of the city will be moved through designated transfer stations before being transported to the Losar dumpsite. Officials say this arrangement is meant to streamline disposal operations, reduce pressure on existing municipal services and address long-standing waste accumulation in neglected neighborhoods.

The CDA said the introduction of modern equipment should improve operational efficiency and expand service coverage to localities that were previously overlooked. Authorities also linked the plan to wider environmental goals, saying more systematic collection and disposal would help improve sanitation, public hygiene and overall urban cleanliness.

The move reflects the administration's attempt to modernize municipal services in the capital while responding to recurring complaints about garbage build-up and uneven service delivery.
