Pakistani worker's Oman flood rescue video goes viral

A Pakistani expatriate in Oman, identified as 25-year-old Shahzad Khan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, drew widespread praise after video showed him rescuing two Indian nationals from a vehicle trapped in floodwaters near Barka. The footage spread rapidly online and turned the rescue into one of the day's most viral Pakistan-linked stories.

According to the report, Khan said onlookers had gathered near the flooded wadi while a car attempting to cross became stuck in the current. He climbed onto the half-submerged vehicle and, after failing to break the windows with his legs, used stones to smash the glass and reach the trapped occupants. He later said he acted without thinking about nationality or religion and responded only because people were in danger.

Eyewitnesses said the current was so strong that no one else dared approach the vehicle. Khan also linked the moment emotionally to Pakistan's Swat tragedy, saying the scene brought back memories of people stranded in floodwaters without timely rescue. Community figures in Oman said they had verified the incident and intended to ensure he was formally recognised.
