Karachi gets light rain as cooler winds bring relief from heat

Light rain moved across several parts of Karachi on Thursday morning, softening the city’s heat and changing conditions after forecasts of light to moderate showers under an active westerly weather system.

Drizzle was first reported in central neighbourhoods including Saddar, Clifton, MA Jinnah Road and the Old City Area, before spreading to northern localities such as North Karachi, New Karachi and Surjani Town. Cooler winds accompanied the showers in some areas, adding to the sense of relief after warm and unsettled conditions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, cloudy weather is expected to persist over the next 24 hours, with a possibility of more rain or drizzle in parts of the city along with strong winds and thunderstorms. The maximum temperature is expected to remain near 32°C, while humidity remained elevated and north-westerly winds continued to blow through the metropolis.

Authorities have also remained on alert. The Sindh PDMA directed teams to stay prepared with machinery and drainage arrangements in place, while residents, travellers and farmers were advised to take precautions due to the risk of strong winds, hail and weather-related disruptions.
