Punjab to digitize 41 toll plazas in anti-overcharging move

Punjab has decided to digitize all 41 manually operated toll plazas under the provincial highway department in an effort to stop overcharging, reduce corruption, and improve transparency in toll collection. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth.

Officials said the conversion will be carried out in phases. Alongside digitization, the department plans to strengthen its monitoring system through an upgraded dashboard so toll collection can be tracked more effectively.

The government has also ordered strict action against overcharging, including legal cases where required. As part of the wider reform, M-Tag facilities will be introduced at all toll points to improve traffic flow and make toll payments more efficient.
