Pakistan emerges as possible venue for US-Iran diplomacy

Pakistan has surfaced as a possible venue for talks between the United States and Iran as Washington appears to be exploring diplomacy after a sharp shift in tone from President Donald Trump. Geo News, citing CNN, reported that the proposed meeting could take place later this week, with Pakistan among several countries involved in mediation efforts.

The report said Pakistan, Turkiye, Egypt and Oman are engaged in attempts to help secure a ceasefire and protect maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz. It also said the United States had passed a 15-point proposal to Iran through Pakistan, though Tehran has publicly denied that any negotiations with Washington are under way.

Pakistan’s role is being framed as strategically important because of its border with Iran and its dependence on Hormuz-linked oil flows. The article also highlighted Islamabad’s recent diplomatic outreach, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s contact with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as Pakistan tries to prevent further regional escalation.
