Karachi Eid celebrations hit by rain, thunder and power outages

Heavy rain, thunder and lightning swept through several parts of Karachi on the first day of Eid ul Fitr, interrupting outdoor plans and raising concerns about disruptions to congregational prayers. Areas including Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Federal B Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Johar were among the localities affected.

Residents in some neighbourhoods reported power outages shortly after the rain began, while water accumulated in low-lying parts of Saddar and nearby areas. The wet conditions added to travel difficulties as intermittent showers continued across the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said thunderstorms were expected in the metropolis and noted that temperatures would ease because of the rainfall. Officials also warned that parts of Sindh and Punjab could continue receiving rain, with lightning risks in some districts and cloudy conditions likely to persist in Karachi over the following Eid days.

Farmers were advised to manage crops according to the prevailing weather pattern as the westerly system continued to affect different parts of the country.
